The ACT is a computer-based test instead of the traditional paper-based test. The entire test duration is 3 hours and 35 minutes (excluding breaks). This test has four sections English (45 minutes), math (60 minutes), reading (35 minutes), and science (35 minutes). There is an optional section which is called the writing section (40 minutes).
English, math, reading and science (writing is optional).
Each section of the ACT (English, Math, Reading, and Science) is scored on a 1 to 36 points scale. The composite score is the average of all four tests. Students taking the optional writing test will receive a writing score of that section ranging from 1 to 36. The writing score does not affect the composite score. Scores are good for five years.
Commonly required score
Generally, a score of 24 or higher is a good score, a perfect composite score is 36 and most schools accept the scores in the 32 to 35 range.
